Is Our Jewellery Waterproof?

One of the questions we get asked most often is, “Is your jewellery waterproof?”

The answer is… yes, but it depends on the material! 💦

Here’s everything you need to know about wearing and caring for your jewellery in and around water.

Sterling Silver

Our Sterling Silver jewellery can be worn in water, however, if your piece is Gold Plated over Sterling Silver, the gold plating will naturally wear down over time.

How quickly the plating wears depends on how often your jewellery is exposed to things like water, chemicals, body oils, sweat, sunscreen, lotions and perfume. Being mindful of what your jewellery comes into contact with will help extend the life of your pieces.

We recommend removing your Sterling Silver jewellery before swimming in pools, hot springs or spas, as chemicals and minerals can affect the finish.

If you wear your jewellery in the ocean, simply give it a quick rinse with fresh water afterwards. Salt water can be corrosive and may affect your jewellery over time.

What If I Forget?

Don't stress! If your jewellery has been exposed to water, chemicals or products, simply give it a clean afterwards and make sure it is thoroughly dried.

Baking Soda Paste

Mix 2 parts baking soda with 1 part water to create a paste. Gently rub the paste over your jewellery, then allow it to dry completely. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth or microfiber towel.

White Vinegar & Water

Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl — we generally use around 100ml of each. Submerge your jewellery for 20–25 minutes, then gently clean with a soft toothbrush. Rinse with fresh water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

Please note: we recommend checking the suitability of any cleaning method for your specific jewellery finish, particularly plated pieces.

PVC Stainless Steel

Our PVC Stainless Steel range is made for everyday wear — including in the water, at the gym and even at the beach! 🌊

This material is more durable and is less likely to tarnish or discolour, making it a great choice for those who want low-maintenance jewellery.

That said, we still recommend removing your jewellery before applying sunscreen, lotions, creams, oils or perfume, as repeated exposure can affect the appearance of your pieces over time.

A Little Extra Care ✨

If your jewellery ever starts looking a little dull, don't worry! Simply give it a gentle wipe with a soft cloth or jewellery polishing cloth to help restore its shine.
